跟很多華僑一樣，歐陽靖 MC Jin 的父母早年從香港移民到美國，在佛羅里達州的 Miami 經營餐館， 1982 年誕下麟兒，取名一個「靖」字。自幼酷愛音樂的歐陽靖，偶像是張學友，父母一直希望他成為醫生或者律師等專業人士。14 歲那年，歐陽靖開始接觸 Hip-hop 文化，並且瘋狂愛上這種節奏感强烈的街頭音樂。每當歐陽靖與朋友走在一起時，他就會「Yo Yo Yo, let's go!」，拍拍凳，rap 起來。就是這樣，歐陽靖靠自行鑽研和無間斷地「玩」，無師自通，日子有功，慢慢地掌握了 rap 的箇中精髓。

在驍舌的過程中，歐陽靖發現自己有花式饒舌（Freestyle Rap）的天份，擅於玩即興，於是立志成為專業的饒舌歌手 rapper。雖然他的決定沒有得到父母的支持，但依然無損他做 rapper 的決心：　「我不是玩玩吓，當 rapper 與其他職業無異，只要有心，認真去做，必成大器」，從此改稱自己為 MC Jin。「MC 」是英文「Microphone Controller」的縮寫，意為「麥克風的掌控者」，也就是指 rapper，「MC 」 是 Hip-hop 文化四大元素之一，其餘的是 DJ、Break Dance 霹靂舞及 Graffiti 塗鴉 。

MC Jin grew up in a neighborhood of Miami with a large African-American population and early on began to have an interest in hip-hop and rap. After he graduated from high school, the family moved to New York where he started participating in BET's "Freestyle Friday", a TV program where two aspiring rappers compete in a freestyle rap battle. Unlike other competitors, MC Jin never touches drugs or uses explicit languages in his freestyle verses. He won seven battles in a row and got signed onto the Ruff Ryder's label, being the first Asian rapper who got a major record deal. In 2007 MC Jin wrote a song called "Open Letter to Obama" to support Barack Obama's presidential run. The song topped the U.S president’s Top 8 list on MySpace.

With his razor sharp wit and remarkable rhymes, MC Jin battled his way through the arterial streets of New York City’s China Town to become a renowned MC and international name. Major media are all over him, including Rolling Stone and New York Times; he landed a high-profile role in the movie "2 Fast, 2 Furious". In 2008, MC Jin was presented with the opportunity to develop his rapping in Hong Kong in an entriely different way. MC Jin 和很多歐美的 rapper 不一樣，他的歌詞很少出現粗口、毒品、酒精、暴力等的歌詞，他是位虔誠的基督徒，亦會用 rap 的方式傳揚福音

2001 年美國發生 911 恐怖襲擊後，為了照顧長居紐約的祖父母，MC Jin 一家由 Miami 移居紐約皇后區，一直反對兒子成為 rapper 的 MC Jin 父母可能想不到此舉反而造就了兒子展示才華的良機，因為紐約是 Hip-hop 的發源地，非常普及，MC Jin 閒時就會到街頭叫賣自己製作的 mixtapes 或者到酒吧作 freestyle rap 演出。認真對待事業，令 MC Jin 的履歷添上許多威水史。唱歌有唱歌比賽，rap 也有 rap 的比賽，但就稱為 battle，因為充滿戰鬥意味。2002 年，他參加了美國 BET 電視台節目《106 & Park》中的 rap battle - 「Freestyle Friday」。基本上，挑釁就是 Hip-hop 文化的特質，比賽時，兩個 rapper 站在台上唇槍舌劍，而「Freestyle Friday」被公認為眾多 rap 比賽的表表者。結果 MC Jin 第一集上台便擊敗上屆台主 Hassan，一舉成名，之後連續 7 周登上台主寶座，每場 freestyle rap battle MC Jin 都贏得風光漂亮。

當然，成功非偶然，MC Jin 付出過、亦承受過。成名前，MC Jin 參加過無數次 freestyle battle，差不多所有參加過的 battle，他都是唯一華人參賽者。試過當走進比賽場地時，即有人惡意挑釁; 又試過一踏上台即被人當面質疑他是不是懂得 rap，基本上未曾 rap 已給別人打了個五折，很不公平。但 MC Jin 從來沒不理會對方的挑釁，反而控制自己情緒，「被人家看扁不打緊，重要的是，自己要看得起自己。」就是這種淡定和自信令 MC Jin 成為 BET freestyle battle 的長勝將軍。Hip-hop 界名人 Ruff Ryders 就是欣賞 MC Jin 的表現，邀請他簽約出唱片，同年 MC Jin 亮相美國賣座電影《2 Fast 2 Furious 速度與激情 2》，飾演一個 rap 得精彩的汽車技師，其歌曲《Peel Off》亦被收錄在該電影的原聲大碟中。

2004 年 MC Jin 推出首張專輯《The Rest is History》，打上美國 Billboard 榜第 54 名，銷量勝過女子十二樂坊和宇多田光在美國出碟的成績，可說是華人在美國樂壇成績之冠。2006 年，MC Jin 推出了兩張唱片，分別為《100 Grand Jin》及《I Promise》。同年 ，他創作的歌曲《Open Letter to  Obama》被奧巴馬選中為 2008 年競選美國總統的助選歌曲，更獲得奧巴馬親自邀請會面，《Open Letter to  Obama》令 MC Jin 登上了 MySpace 的「Barack Obama's Top 8 list」的第一位。

一段段經歷令 MC Jin 成為美國 Hip-hop 界的傳奇。但想不到的是，一次香港旅行，一句朋友的話，令 MC Jin 這位美藉華裔 rap 界紅人毅然放下美國的成就，回港發展，下星期續。
